Hi, i have installed correctly wordpress on localhost with xaamp. I placed de theme in the wp-content/themes folder. But when i open wordpress dashboard, go to themes, and click install, it appears a setup wizard that asks me to put my ftp server, but if i put localhost server it doesn’t work. Is there any especific way to write that its a localhost and not an online one?
i already have a public domain, but now its holding the old version of the web, and it has to continue working till i have finished my version on localhost.
Sorry for my english, i hope you understood everything, and thank you1 year, 9 months ago RachelKeymaster
The theme does work fine also on localhost, there is no need to upload it on an online server. Can you show us a screenshot of the message you get at setup wizard or show us your credentials so we can check it?
Although I quit setup wizard without finishing, the theme is active, but if i want to install plugins it ask me to set the ftp server username and password
thanks for your support.
P.d. I’m not an expert on wordpress, don’t hate me if i’m asking stupid questions 😉
I’m a little bit in a hurry to fix this because i can’t download any demo, or install the plugins (without doing it manually and not through wordpress desktop).
I have spanish wordpress, so maybe you can’t understand the error message, I tried filling the gaps with this data:
Server: localhost, or 127.0.0.1
User: root, or even another ftp user I created with all privileges
Pass: empty for root, my custom pass for the dedicated user i created.
The error message says: “it’s been an error during conection to the server, please make sure the configuration is correct.
Sorry for being so persistent, but i have lost all my daytime trying to solve this.
Thank you very much1 year, 9 months ago RachelKeymaster
This is an hosting permission issue. To fix this you have change the permissions of the folder to 755 and its ownership to www-data or the user that is part of the apache server.
Let us know if this will help you.
Already fixed, i had changed the permissions to 755 but not the ownership. I spent a little bit searching on the web and i found this tutorial.
Now its working, i’m trying to install the plugins and some of theme failed, but i can install them manually.
Thanks a lot.
