How should we go about translating with WPML ? When clicking the Homepage <Pages><Home><edit>, all the content appears in the original language in the editor window but when the WPML button is clicked to add translated content in another language a complete new blank page appears ?
Normally when you go on to translate a page, a new page will be created. Then you can chose to add the translated content from scratch, or copy the original text and translate step by step in this new page.
See a video tutorial on how to translate pages using the plugin:

And how to proceed in order to translate the main menu (at the top of site) ?
When adding a language option and when switching to a different language the system all the sudden adds a blank bar at the top of the screen with the menu items created in the different language and just underneath a grey bar with some kind of breadcrumb structure like : you are here: home. In the original language everything seems to be fine with a continuous picture in the background and on top of that the menu items with a breadcrumbs bar. Any solution for this ?
Last sentence ‘without breadcrumbs’ bar instead of ‘with breadcrumbs’ bar.

It’s not really solved, the page is already translated. Test: just switch from the English language flag on the top of the screen to the Dutch language flag and see what happens. At the top of the screen, the floating white transparant menu suddenly becomes a menu with a white background and underneath a white bar with a text in it. That shouldn’t happen. Only the menu should change from English to Dutch. This reply has been marked as private.9 months, 1 week ago MirelaKeymaster
That was happening because the home page’s translation was not complete. Also the page was missing the title and in it’s General Settings > Page options, the page header option was ON. This was the cause of the add of the breadcrumbs bar.
Given the fact that the translated version of home page is also an entirely independent page, you need to set it up just like the main home page as well. So i matched up the page options for both pages (home in dutch and home in nl) and they are looking exactly the same now. See here:
